Musa

   Son of Ottoman sultan Bayezid I (qq.v.), whose death ended a civil war (1410-1413) with Bayezid's other two sons, Suleyman Celebi and Mehmed. Musa first attacked his brother Suleyman Celebi, defeating and killing him in 1411. He then attacked Manuel II (q.v.) to punish him for his support of Suleyman, besieging Constantinople (q.v.) for almost a year (1411-1412). However, Musa was defeated and executed in 1413, which allowed Mehmed (I) (q.v.) to become undisputed Ottoman sultan (q.v.). This united the Ottomans (q.v.) for the first time since Bayezid's capture by Timur in 1402 at the battle ofAnkyra (qq.v.).
